We are in the Peak District, in Derbyshire. Everything is expensive housewise, landed or not. Our land is separate from the house, which is a cheaper option.....athough land here reaches ridiculous prices even for a tiny paddock.
We did look at selling up everthing, and moving further North. Lancashire, Northumberland, Scottish Borders. But looking at it logically, much as I would love to do this - in a few years its unlikely we will want to be slogging all hours outdoors, and having had a few health issues, its made us realise we needed to downsize - not take on more work in the form of a farmhouse in need of modernisation (which is all we could probably afford)> Been there and done it, and the cost and sheer hard work makes you think twice about repeating it.
So, for the time being, we have kept the land, and bought a tiny coalminers cottage, which fingers crossed should be completed on very soon.
