Tom, Dick and Harry have arrived!
« on: April 22, 2013, 09:42:47 pm »
Our Large Black x Landrace 'weaners' have arrived  :excited:
They've tested the leccy fencing  :innocent:  and had a good rootle around the paddock and found the ark so hopefully should be fine.
They are already 16 weeks old so will only be with us for maybe 3 months

Love having pigs back around the place

A lovely area for your new arrivals. The ark looks huge,  they might get lost in it tonight  ;D

Those are really well grown pigs, whoever you've had them from has done them extremely well. I'd be looking at less than the three months you mentioned before getting them in the freezer.

We built the ark for our first pigs back in early 2010 and it is doing really well   To start with I put extra bales inside the ark to close off some of it so they can't get lost in all the space  :-J  Once they get a bit bigger I remove those bales and they spread out to the rest of the area.
They are very much enjoying the grass - munching happily in preference to the pig nuts!
We'll take them on til they are about 85kg liveweight

Lovely big pigs and I am so envious of the grass last year at this time ours was about a foot high, this year it is lucky if it is 3-4 inches.
