Anyone know if slaughterhouses are funny about you sending in newly shorn sheep for slaughter?
It's just that I have a couple of hogs who will go off soon, but they have a nice fleece on them and we will be shearing in May so I was thinking about waiting and sending them after shearing....

I don't think they would care to be honest, as long as there were no cuts or splits on them. We always shear out the bottoms of anything that goes. The only thing they may not like is that newly shorn sheep can be a bit slippy to handle

I'm sure I'm right in thinking a lot of commercial farmers shear their stores and keep them inside on ad lib cake then they are sent off to slaughter... I would check with your slaughterhouse first

Having longwools the abattoir I use prefers them shorn or at the very least belly clipped!

Make the most of them. I would. Makes their lives of more value and hopefully adds to your profits. Market fleece to your local spinning guild if you don't use it yourself.
