Goose crossed with Muscovy
« on: April 11, 2013, 10:33:57 am »
We have one remaining Muscovy (male). He's getting amorous with our Goose. Is this cross possible? I have been told that Muscovies are really geese, but not convinced.

No, Muscovies are a different duck species to most domestic ducks (which are related to mallards) but neither are they geese. So I don't think the mating would be fertile.

You can get fertile goose or fertile Muscovy eggs on ebay Andrew - if your goose is laying just now she may sit soon and you could slip in some live eggs when she comes off for a break.  My geese and Muscovy drakes tolerate each other, but bickering does break out now and then.  We inherited some Muscovy/other duck crosses when we came here - there were two of them and they were infertile.

Muscovy drakes 'get amorous' with just about anything that moves - it doesn't even have to be a waddle  :roflanim:   They are not interested in the progeny, just the fun  :eyelashes:
