Boer nanny feeding 6-7 kids/lambs
« on: April 05, 2013, 08:21:00 am »
My boer nanny is the best mother I've ever seen too good I fact she has 3 kids off her own (4 weeks old) but she is feeding everything on my field! One off my ewes also had triplets and she keeps giving them top up feeds & a little Pygmy boy! How to I stop her being so good! Haha she has plenty of milk still and I'm not milking her at all

If you want to have your Boer kids to grow quickly I would separate the goat from the sheep and leave her with own offspring only. Yes they will get something... but unlikely to be enough. If a kid//lamb needs between 1.5 and 2 ltrs of milk a day the maths just don't add up for that number of kids/lambs....

Have to agree, Boers are not a milk breed and as she has triplets of her own they need everything she has
We have a Boer Nanny here with twins and she has had to be kept away from all of the other kids as she would also let anyone feed

My boer x has triplets and managing them but not a chance of feeding anyone else. She sends them flying.  Feel for her though, teats are looking a bit chewed, sudocrem seems to help.

Yes the one thing we used to be warned about was not to suckle lambs off goats (Have you seen how tough they can get!)sure way of ending up with a damaged udder
