Swallows have arrived.
« on: March 28, 2013, 12:30:27 pm »
Yesterday evening we saw our first swallow. Actually a mass of them feeding over our lake. Herons and Egrets in the trees too and all manner of bird calls that we have not heard over the winter.
it may not be summer but I think it safe to say that Spring has sprung. :excited:

Silly buggers, should've stayed where it was warm and  :sunshine:, hope ours don't bother, poor little things will get cold

Send them up country to me will you Martin? Thanks. We had lovely sunshine this afternoon, after having snow flurries this morning!

Dug my tractor out of the barn to go snow clearing and swallows were flying around. I thought it strange considering the drifting snow ? Not even had any daffodils yet.

I hope they hold off a bit from here as there's not a fly anywhere to be seen for them to eat.

Good grief!  I would have thought they would have stalled in France somewhere and waited for the weather to improve.  I'm in chilly Norfolk and there's not a sight of them yet - those easterlies are probably just one step too far for them!

Took me a minute or two to realise you in France!  Would be rather early for swallows here even in a very warm year!.... this year I think we are more likely to see penguins!

Aha!  Looks like I fell into the 'trap'!  They obviously are stalling in France - if they had any sense they would head south rather quickly, what with the forecast being rather grim for us over the water for the next heaven-knows how long!  This time last year I was in shorts and worrying about drought!

If they'd flown up country yesterday, they'd have definitely turned round and gone back down Martin's way as we woke up to a winter wonderland again this morning. It had mostly thawed by this afternoon, but there were about 2 inches worth on the top of the cars and we couldn't see the green of the grass. It just doesn't seem right having snow at Easter does it?

There was one in our kitchen the other day.  Don't know what happened to it but it was prbably too cold for it to hang around.
