Hi,
Well, last night I went to my first meeting with the spinning group in Broughton, what can I say, except it far exceeded my expectations
.
I turned up with my drop spindle and some carded wool, and was met with open arms from everyone, I didn't feel like the newbie at all, infact when I started to spin, a couple of the others, were really interested as they had never seen it done before.
Anyway one of the lady's there said that she hadn't any wool prepared to do any spinning, and that when the most experienced spinner there arrived, she could show me how to spin on her wheel
. So that is what I did, It took me a while before I could work the treadle, I kept wanting to make it go backwards, eventually I could do it, so the wool was threaded on for me, and away I went, I still found it difficult to treadle, and if I concentrated on that, I found my drafting of the yarn went to pot, but slowly it started to happen for me. I had actually spun quite a length of yarn by the time they stopped for a tea break, so after tea, the lady teaching me plyed what I had spun, so I came home with a skein of wool. albeit a small skein.
Next week one of the lady's is going to bring her spare wheel for me to use
, I just cannot believe how kind and generous these people have been to me, as I was only there for 2 hours.
It's going to be a long week until next Tuesday.
Regards
Sue
