Dahlia seeds....
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:58:26 pm »
... growing indoors has not made me popular with Mrs escapedtothecountry.... but come the Summer it will all be worth it.

700 being grown from seed along with all the tubers that I stored from last year! Think my spade and trowel will be getting some use when the milder weather finally gets here.

Oooh, that makes me think of a question. My mum bought one of my sons Dahlia seeds for Christmas. They're all happily growing away in a propagator - phew. Anyhow the question is, will these produce normal Dahlia tubours or are they different sorts of Dahlia? I've only ever grown Daylias from tubours before. You sound like an expert (and I don't blame your wife for a having a problem with them being inside but then my husband objects to my sick chickens wandering around the kitchen so each to their own!)

Im no expert. The seeds I grew last year suggested they were just annual plants and were smaller than ones grown from a tuber, however I have dug them up and they have tubers (smaller than ones I've bought from a wholesaler before) so I will be replanting them when it gets warmer.
