Polytunnel size???
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:26:38 pm »
Hi

I am looking at ordering a Polytunnel from Premier Polytunnels (any experineces of this company) and I am unsure what size to get.

I would like to grow plants on a table down the middle and have at least one ground bed, and be able to walk around the table (possibly).

The aim is to grow to sell but as a newbie I don't want to get one and then wish I had got a bigger one.

The space for the veg/fruit plot is 30x40 metres but don't want the polytunnel to dominate.

Currently considering 14ft x 36ft but would love to hear what everyone else has and experiences.

Mine's 21 x 42 feet and nice and high at the sides as well as in the middle (10 or 12' high, can't remember).  It's a Northern Polytunnels.  If you have a table down the middle then the plants on the northern side will be even more shaded than they are by other plants.  Or are you intending to orient it N-S?  W-E allows for better air flow.
I have an 8' greenhouse inside mine as it's very cold here.  I am growing most of my crops indoors this year and the tunnel should be just about big enough.  If you are going to be growing commercially I would think you would need a bigger tunnel.

Ours is 14' wide. If I put a table down the middle there would be very little room to walk around it and the beds at the side would be pretty narrow too. Ours has a path down the middle about 2 feet wide.

I suspect whatever size you get you will wish it was bigger so I'd go for the biggest you can accommodate/afford.

Agree TOTALLY MGWM. Get the biggest one you can afford or have space for.
