Help- I've got a poorly chicken!!
« on: February 27, 2013, 02:04:42 pm »
Hi folks,
I'm hoping one of you might have an idea what's wrong with my chicken. She's been looking under the weather the past couple of days, keeping to herself, mainly with her head under her wing or just shrunk down as though she has no neck. Her comb has become very pale and greatly reduced in size. She is still roosting with the others at night time.
I've just been out to have a closer look and she feels considerably lighter than usual although she is still is interested in food. When I picked her up, she vomited, which looked like egg yolk (all eggs intact, so I know it wasn't).
I'm feeding layers pellets with Flubenvet.
Any thoughts/ advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks  :chook:

It's possible she needed worming, what day are you into with the flubenvet ?

Tucked away on the downs in wiltshire.

Day 5. They were overdue for worming, as, like most people I've struggled to get hold of any Flubenvet. She's 1 of 7, the others seem fine.

Maybe a sour crop..is her crop hard? I gave mine a spoon of olive oil and massaged it and it broke up and she recovered

I thought sour crop too. A little natural yoghurt might work too. Check her for mites too as this could weaken her and make her comb pale. Good luck xxx

Thank you for your replies.
No, her crop is not hard.
Have tried to give her some natural yogurt though and have put extra grit down.
I have checked her skin for marking or mites and have found nothing.
Will keep you posted.
