Booster injections and worming done over the last two days. Ponies gave me a look this morning as if to say, here she comes, what now. After breakfast out they went, still frosty mornings but sunny during the day so I have taken off their rugs. They acted like little TB coming out of a starting gate. Racing each other as fast as their little legs could go. I laughed till I had tears in my eyes. Crazy bunch but cheered me up no end.

Ours had their's done a couple of weeks ago - tetanus and teeth  ;D - worm tests next month.

They've been so enjoying the sunshine - regular mad behaviour, usually started by Bug, the Shetland, but even Sheba, who's 28, gets going  ;D

Always makes me smile  ;D :horse: :horse: :horse:

Rugs have been off today - I don't rug many but for those mainly seniors who wear them they've been off and it's been fab!
We got up to 15oC today - I'm just praying this isn't summer  ;D
Injections next week and everyones up to date with everything - another job (and expense) to tick of the list!
We've been out on long hacks everyday too which has been just amazing, it all makes you feel so much better - winter blues are well and truly over  :excited:

Hi Rosie B can you recommend a dentist in the area as the one I used doesn't travel to this area anymore ( I've only got one horse) I'm in New Galloway, I think I read your in Dumfries? Any help locating one would be great thanks.

Try David Brown who is  an Equine Dental Technician 07971234365. he covers Scotland and I found him very good indeed. He has a web site if you google him.

Hi Sheep Crazy

it's my vet that does any dentistry work, to be honest I've never used an equine dentist I've always been lucky enough to have a vet qualified to do it, sorry not very helpful  :innocent:

My vet always wanted to sedate first when there was no need. I don't think vets have enough experience with tooth problems in equines or maybe that is just my experience.

Haha I couldn't agree more about vets and teeth or vets and hoofs for that matter - I wouldn't let me vet touch my horses hoofs EVER!! They are useless and make such a mess, I once did and my farrier went mad, since then its farrier only who touches hoofs!!

To be honest I think your lucky if you find a vet that has much experience or knowledge with equines at all they all know the basics but beyond that they struggle - unless of course they specialise in equines!

I had vertigo and one of my maiden mares went into labour. Rather than take the risk that she would be fine I called the vet. By the time he arrived nose and hoof were visable. he took one look and said he would just leave her. when I asked him to hang on for 10mins just to make sure his comment floored me. she will be another 2 hours at  least. I needed my OH to hold me up as the vertigo was so bad but with that remark I was so angry. He came into the house and watch her on camera and boy did she struggle but foal was not moving. Not till I said that I was going out to help her and being a stud manager knew when something was not right did the vet move. foal was stuck at the shoulders. Vet pulled that foal out as you would a calf instead of easing one shoulder out at a time, I was horrified. foal could not feed well as his throat was all swollen for a couple of days. Never trusted him again.

Oh my God that's terrible!

I could tell you some stories about vets and equines - I trust them all very little unless they specialize in equine and if I'm in doubt argue the toss and threaten legal action if I'm right and/or get a second opinion.  I think sometimes even with cows and sheep they can be questioned!

I had a vet out to put down an old sheep of mine and she couldn't even find the vein by the end the sheep and I were in a terrible state. Since then I've been at the surgery and 4 different sets of people were waiting for the other vet rather than see this other girl. My mistake was not to specify which vet I wanted.

The worst thing I've seen done, was at another practice a Cesarean section on a friends sheep, the guy clipped the ewe washed her down with iodine and then took the point of the needle and cut a line down through the skin. So he could inject the anesthetic around the cut! The  moron, I had to hold the sheep down for the whole procedure, luckily hes not my vet or even from the practice I use. My vets inject the anesthetic first and the ewe can't feel anything  I've even seen vets give epidurals for hard lambings Shame my  friend doesn't know better and swap practices.
