Just finished knitting a jumper...
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:37:31 pm »
I've just finished knitting this, and managed to get OH to pose for a photo. The pattern is called 'Man's Henley' (it's a US pattern, so not easy to get hold of in the UK, but when someone says 'That's great - can you make me one of those?', what can you do??

very nice, and I like the colour.  Chunky knits are always on my list, you just want to  them.  How long did it take you to make it and how much did it cost - cheaper than Boden I bet!

Thank you!
It's taken months (but then, I have also knit several pairs of socks, a shawl and various other bits and pieces while I've been doing it). Started in September, and sewed the buttons on today. The yarn cost about £50, so not *super* cheap, but still a decent price.
And yes, that's Bryan doing the modelling. He insisted I cut the head off, though...

I LOVE that cable.  It's very unusual and looks impressive.  Well done.

Thank you for all the lovely comments! My talented model is being very modest, but he's an old hand at this malarkey - he's used to having to model the socks I knit too...

Still think that's a good price when you consider it is made by hand and will be used and used and patched up and mended with  and never end up in a charity shop.  I used to work in The Scotch House in Knightsbridge for a spell when I was a slip of a girl - they used to sell such jumpers made by a lady in Skye - her own wool, washed in the loch at the finish before drying and sending down to London - now that was early 80's and they cost more than yours did today.  Think you've got a bargain really.  Now, get the model showing us the socks.  :D

Beautiful socks. You are mean though, making him stand on the gravel  :roflanim:
Why type of wool do you use?

I know...  :-[  It's just nice to have some plants in the background!

These socks were all knit using Posh Yarn (www.poshyarn.co.uk), so were mainly merino/nylon, but with a little something extra to soften them (eg cashmere, alpaca). But I knit with all sorts of different yarns, and have recently been spinning my own too. At some point this year, I'll be making some socks for me out of this, which is Wensleydale:

Do you or have you ever thought of keeping sheep and spinning?
