Incubation/Hatching question
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:45:34 pm »
Good afternoon

I have 5 miniature blue silkie eggs in my incubator.  This is day 22.  I candled them 4 days ago and they were all at the same stage of development.  1 of them hatched about 24 hours ago but the other 4 are showing no signs of hatching.

How long should i wait before taking the chick out of the incubator and is there still a chance the others will hatch?

Thanks

Hold egg to ear, can you hear bird chirping inside, I wouldn't give up yet
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

! more has hatched.

I have not held the eggs to my ear to listen for chirping.  I wasn't sure if i am supposed to open the incubator incase the humidity lowers.

Thanks

You are right not to open the incubator too often as it will reduce humidity but it will be a good indicator as to whether there are live chicks in your remaining eggs. You can also look to see if the eggs have pipped.

We sometimes give the eggs a light misting with clean, warm water (from a plant spray bottle) and place a piece of damp tissue in the incy to increase humidity levels. If membranes become dry the chicks will find it difficult to get out.

 :fc:  for your other eggs.
