hello from carmarthenshire
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:18:52 pm »
hello everyone.

me and my partner built a house on her family's organic farm where we live with our 20 month old son. the in laws dont work it any more so im slowly building it up. want to do something a bit different so last year had a big go at chillis in a poly tunnel which turned out to be an epic fail. but you live and learn.

looking for a milking goat at the moment and some geese. i would like some brecon buff as im a big believer in keeping rare breeds going.

and as i have only been here a year and originally from a the concrete jungle of cardiff so i need all the advice i can get.

Hi pitmanuk,
I keep an eye on bird trader and preloved for geese. There is also a poultry fair in Llanfair on the last Sat of the month, but there are only 'geese' advertised this month, suggesting no named brands!

There is also a poultry market at ffairfach on the last Sat of each month. Its worth a look even if you do't buy anything.

Hi there - and welcome from Worcestershire

I keep Crested Geese  - which I think are lovely.   :)

I may have eggs later on this season, but goose eggs are not easy to hatch, at least in my experience though I have heard Muscovey ducks do a good job.

Yes - they certainly let you know if something is around.  They seem to be fairly calm, the one even let me check the eggs under her last year  :eyelashes: , though the gander has taken to being a bit more hissy just lately, so I think they may not be long before they start laying  :fc:

I love the market in ffairfach, in my element, the last time I went I came home with two slightly scruffy looking kittens which were being sold from under a dodgy looking blokes coat!
