All,

Since the screenshots above were posted I have done considerably more work to the calculator.  I have also been working with Dan to make this available as a download and he has now completed the necessary work.

The download site is located in, Livestock, Pigs Guides and Articles, Pig Costs, All in 1 Pig Calculator …. shortcut located here.

The version that is available for download has a number of enhancements a well as a user guide that are not present in the earlier versions.  Dan (and others) believed that considering the amount of work that has gone into the calculator it would be reasonable to look for some return and therefore it has been put on as ‘donationware’.

I am working on a number of enhancements that will be released in due course.  In the meantime I hope it is proving useful and if you have anyone has suggestions for improvement please let me know and I'll do my best to incorporate them.

We are about to have our first lot of weaners delivered in two weeks and, taking on a third to keep for friends, this spreadsheet looks to be a great financial tool.

This must have taken an amount of time to produce however, we fully appreciate your hard efforts to make our first time pig keeping a success.

We need every tip and hint we can get. Thank you.

Spreadsheet sounded great, should prove we are running at a loss :(

Downloaded it but when I try to open the zip it reports as an invalid zip file. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Alastair,

I've just downloaded it again myself to check and it appears fine.

Click Download now -> Select 'Save File' -> Open the folder containing the download -> Double click on 'pig-calculator.zip' and it should open the zipped file.  From there I recommend dragging and dropping the files into a suitable directory and then open them as any other Excel file from that point.

If you still have trouble PM me with you email address and I'll mail the unzipped files to you.

All,

Just to clarify, the download is available from:

Livestock -> Pigs -> Pig costs / All in 1 Pig Calculator which takes you to:

I’ve added some additional information as shown below.

The new section ‘Total costs incurred’ works in conjunction with ‘Projected Cost Calculator based on current date / age.’

The number of pigs and the cost of feed is used in the new ‘Total Costs incurred section’.

I’ll email an updated version to all those who have received it already… once any more feedback has been received and actioned by me.

As before, if you would like a copy please PM quoting your email address.
