My daughters are all optimists and full of fun, that's good, but. the oldest lives in the Blue mountains and is now very much at risk of loosing her home, here children are getting very jumpy as all they can see and smell is thick smoke.  Not heard from them this our last night and there this morning, they may have their power cut off soon. I suppose the only consolation is, they are prepared and they are in a community that's going to be affected in the same way. .a bit like any disaster........I am finding it hard to function properly at the moment.......Thanks for the support, I need as many distractions as possible!!

It must be so very scary...they have insurance and others are in the same  boat.....one way to get a new home and outfits!!
I am in floods of tears, they may be able to return but the predictions are major fire risk....they HAD to leave

I'm so glad they have moved out.  I see that the firefighters merged two areas of fire in order to stop it spreading to a third.  You never know, it may not reach their home.  But even so, as John says, home is family not a building.
Wipe the tears, Amanda and your granddaughter are safe.

Apparently there is a big fire heading straight for them and only about 12 miles away..the wind is changing so they are best to get out now...they could still come back to a home but who knows? I am so glad they are out...........they have had so much drama, the place is full of smoke and the sounds of helicopters and fire engines etc.......at least they can relax

I've been following this anxiously. I was in Victoria the year after Ash Wednesday (that was 1983). I still remember seeing the scorched trees, although it was amazing how soon nature was able to recover. But I met people who'd lost not just property and livestock, but also members of the family...

Glad to hear your family is safe now. The rest will be ok in time.

OH Sandy    they've made the sensible decision, they will be safe now. Hard and awful as it is to potentially lose your home, losing people is always far worse!  I'm in all day (apart from whole sale deliveries between 10-11) PM or call me xxx

Thanks everyone,   It's times like this I want my family with me.......I really am having a job functioning properly and getting ready to move out myself.......actually not sure where  the aunts lives but lots of people will not be able to go to work and the schools are closed. There are other pressing issues too that concern me deeply.......moving to another country has certainly been and is challenging......

Sandy it must be terribly distressing for them and everyone else involved but at least you know they have made the right decision and will be safe.
