So thats good some extra £ for us. Well today we went to check things over as it was below freezing and guess what. the water filters are outside above ground. They had froze then burst just do not believe it how daft are some people :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

Ha ahahah, I was waiting for the rest of the song, that's brill, I love the Pool accent, mum came from N Wales and had that sort of twang....any guests that come here from the pool always appear to have a sense of humour.
That place looks very big, lots to keep you young and active, still not sure where abouts you are?  We are giving up our B&B when we sell, we do love it and it has been a good source of income but I need to be able to get away and visit family more often.....our place is a money pit and needs a rich owner!!!!
What a view and a tonic to watch the seasons change, that's what I love about it up here, all that open space and scenery!!!!

Wonderful!!!!!

Its difficult, my husband has a low wage and has been out of work a few times, then, even full, we struggle, BUT, its due to the house being huge, heating bills HUGE and constant repairs and updates needing £££££.
I only initially wanted to let rooms occasionally but we are near industry that has workmen and contractors coming all the time, trouble is, there are loads of people in the area who once anyone who comes to our place goes to the shop or pub, they get nicked, normal houses can let 2 rooms and easily subsidise their income and that's what a lot of local people do, often avoiding tax etc as its done on the quiet, we have to pay tax, comply to fire regs which are an expense in themselves, and other stupid things.  I used to cook the odd evening meal for groups of workmen but realised that was a chore that did not give the return so I knocked that on the head, then, instead of putting up prices to cover the expense of breakfasts I do room only, especially as we are selling up and there is a snack shop just across from us. The key is having a cheap to maintain house in either a tourist spot, near a unit or hospital or near industry........its not something that will make you rich but if I were alone I would certainly let a room...although sometimes its also scare!!!
AND, you have no freedom!

Hi Happygolucky
The pub/motel are in Sutherland north of Ullapool and south of Durness (every thing is south of Durness). The motel will have 7 rooms when the refurb is done one will be a bunk room with 6 beds in for walkers fishermen. We will get some one in to help out. We will depend on tourists as between Nov/ March no one is about. We will never be rich but we moved up here cos we love the place

That's the best reason.  My ex and I moved to Arran because we loved the island and then looked for a way to earn a living.

My brother recently bought a croft on the shores of Loch Broom, on the opposite side of the loch from Ullapool. OH are hoping to get up there next year with the 2 dogs (planning a Land Rover Defender adventure  ;D  ) The scenery looks stunning.

We did wonder if my brother was trying to tell us something - we're in west Cornwall so he couldn't really get much further away!  :innocent:

We thought of loads of ideas, a lot of chaps came here on motor bikes, there is a race track very near and they were able to dry out their gear and leave their bikes in our garage,......then cyclists and climbers, runners, botanists, painters, photographers...or maybe shooting parties...Scotland is the outdoor playground of the UK!!
