Wanted - quality handmade wicker basket for gift
« on: December 03, 2012, 01:03:13 pm »
Hello all,

I would like to buy a basket or two and would much rather support a TASer who does basket making than a commercial source.

I'm looking for the kind of lovely sturdy thing you take down the garden to get the eggs, pull a few beets and lettuces etc. I say wicker by example but I know people make them out of other things so please let me know.

I'm in Grantham but would consider something that could be posted.

Thanks!

Mm me too if anyone makes them, it's just not the same collecting eggs in a plastic bucket

Well I wish I could say I make them, but I can't.  But I do have a good friend who does and who makes utterly beautiful, sturdy, well designed baskets that are inexpensive for the work that goes into them, too.

Anne makes practical baskets, and you can either commission them specially or choose one off the page - she sells them via Etsy.  She will also copy a basket if you have a beloved old one that is falling to bits.

Here is a link to her page:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/willowmaid?ref=seller_info

For those who have never bought from Etsy before, it is a great place - but go into it with a list and stick to it, or your bank balance will suffer.  Ask me how I know  :D   The prices show in dollars to begin with, but when you pull the baskets up on individual pages, they convert to pounds, and that's what you pay in.

I see she has a sale on, too - so you'd better hurry or you might find I have bought them all  :innocent: :roflanim:

That really is fantastic prices, I did an evening class in basket making and it cost me nearly as much as she is charging just for the willow. The lady who did the classes charges 4 times this amount ::)

A friend of mine makes these if anyone is still looking. I have one of her foraging baskets, very nice and sturdy.
