Hi all,
For the 2nd year running we have raised turkeys for Christmas. 
Last year we raised 15, and as it was our first year and not sure if they would all survive, I only charged a small amount for them to Friends and family.  Just to cover feed costs.
Well...This year we have managed to raise 18 Turkeys, and have told everyone that they will be priced the same as any other local free range turkeys.
I am going to call our local butcher up to enquire how much per kilo his turkeys will be, but thought I would also ask on here.
Our turkeys are free range until the last 3 weeks, when we bring them into the barn to finish.  They have tonnes of room to run about so still kind.  but they are not organic.  The rate they get through the food I could'nt afford organic.  and also our local feed suppliers don't sell organic turkey feed.
Anyway....... any comments would be appreciated.

We were charged £2.50/lb last year and we ended up with a 22lb bird   we asked for a 10-14lb, there were only 3 of us for xmas dinner! It just a say fit in the roasting tray. Sad to say even after freezing a load of it quite a lot still went in the bin   You can only eat so much turkey!

I grew up on a turkey farm so we had it to eat every few weeks when one would strangle itself somehow.  There's allsorts of ways of serving turkey, both hot and cold.  Such a shame to waste any.
Maybe we should have a 'what to do with left over turkey' thread, in advance of Christmas so we can all be prepared.  Maybe I'm the only one who thinks there's never enough turkey left 
 
Sorry - can't help with price.  The last free range organic one Ibought a few years ago was about £60 for 18lb, which fits well with £2.50 per lb.  I haven't got one ordered this year yet

The guide price is £30 for a bronze and £60 for a goose this is whot tesco and asda will go on they need more than whots in the sale .il put 100 geese and 40 turkeys in the christmas sale i will also put 50 ewes if the money goes up very low at the mo .There is not a lot about as april was very wet for the chicks i did mine a month erley .im still hatching for the march sales of 2013  onley 2 hatches to go the hens came into condition erley as it was mield thev have had rabbit and brokali for a snack to day .

I cant say for turkeys but we norm pay £30-£40 for them & the same for a 10-15lb goose is what we charge x

We're getting ours from this place http://www.duckpitvalley.co.uk/ and I think they have a price list on there somewhere - depends on weight (they do it in weight ranges). But we are in the 'rich' South-East - not sure where you are so you may have to adapt a little!
