Rats!!!!
« on: November 20, 2012, 02:23:08 pm »

We've been using Eradibait on the rats, it doesn't cause any secondary poisoning to wild birds or chickens etc.  We make little packets of poison with cling film and stuff it right under the houses down holes, anywhere the chickens can't get to it.
But the little buggers are getting wise to this and have started throwing it back out >:( unwrapped  >:(

I need a different bait that won't poison anything else, just incase they take a death stroll and the chickens fancy a nibble. Any suggestions.......

A cat.  They really do work much better than any poison.

I found a dead one half eaten in one of my chicken coops the other day. Don't know if the chickens had killed it but they'd certainly had a good peck at it afterwards.

Don't know Laurasfarm but I do know that cloves and mint deter rats and we also put prickly gorse around and underneath houses which stops them coming through the floors.

Put something nice and stinky (fish oil maybe) on the clingfilm after you have wrapped the bait. Between the eradibait and Daffyd the muscovy we haven't had a rat problem in the last few months
Daffyd was doing a grand job on his own till his Mrs went broody, then he refused to leave her  so we tried eradibait. Worked well for us.
He's back to killing small squeaky things if he finds them again now :&>  < this icon does not do the wonderduck any justice ;D

I know
Daffyd the wonderduck. Everyone should have one

Mind you on the other hand, he will steal any dairy nuts he can get his fat beak on if the goats aren't quick enough. he will go for the dogs if he feels like it and cannot be penned at night with the other ducks. He has learned to jump up to try and steal from your pockets and has now discovered if you wander up the track you can plead starvation with the new neighbor and get fed fresh bread BAD DUCK!
But he does enjoy rat killing so I have to forgive him :D
