Hi I am new to this, IE small holding , I don't have a small holding, but do have a large garden, hoping to grow veg, fruit and possible some chickens.

As I don't have space for pigs, I was wondering if there is anything like adopt a pig, where people like me could know the pig being reared by someone and when time comes the pig comes to the person who adopted it.

The person who reared it gets paid and the person who adopts gets good pork. I know could just go out and possible purchase but if something like this could be set up with local rarer then you could see the progress of the pig. Also think payment could be arranged each week so no large outlay to purchase full pig at end of process

Just a thought possible something is already set up if so could you please let me know

Also, it depends where you are.


You may be able to find someone with the land to raise pigs who could keep an extra one for you.  I take it you have read the post about costs.

If you let people where you are then you may find a partner. I am going to keep a pig for someone next year - in return he will slaughter our threes pigs, give us straw and some firewood. Swaps is sometimes better than cash.

Kate Humble does this kind of thing at her farm in Monmouthshire. You can visit your pig and specify how you want it butchered/cured, etc. Have a look at www.humblebynature..com or email [email protected]

I always do my pigs like this for people who are interested.  I charge extra for any curing of bacon or hams etc at the finished stage!  I am sure you will find someone local to you who would be willing.  Let us know how you get on?

We run such a scheme as a part of our community farm in Cambridgeshire. The soil association keep a directory of CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) and you may find a project near you that would suit.

We have also done a similar thing in the past. You pay for the pig, it's food and share of straw etc. we keep the pig and you can come as often as you like, if you're near enough. At slaughter time we share the pig half each. We are in the south east and happy to help if we can.

I do a raise your own pork scheme 

You choose your weaner, we raise it for you and you're welcome to come visit it............we're in central Scotland though, just south of Glasgow so might be a bit far away for regular visits  But we can courier the pork to you at the end 
We've got a couple of halfway grown Large Blacks available and will have more weaners in the spring

Based in the Wye Valley, in Gliucestershire, we have 15 adopted piglets we are growing for folk at present.  We charge for the weaner at 8 weeks, and then have a daily cost of £1 for food and lodging, though that is likely to increase with the way food prices are going up.  Boars can be kept to 7 months max.  Gilts longer, by arrangement.  We keep British Saddleback pigs only.


The person who adopts the pig pays for dispatch and butchery, though we arrange these for them.  Collection/delivery by arrangement.

We are based Methlick Aberdeenshire and raise piglets and pigs for others along with our own with the option of us partly of fully raised.
We can arrange butcher services with the clients choice of cuts and sausages.
We  keep Pedigree Saddleback and Mangalitza pigs and about to have a litter of each with in the next few weeks.
