It's probably been discussed on here previously but hope you don't mind me asking again, what is a good quality kibble to feed pups without breaking the bank?  My pup came to me on a Beta puppy diet but he got diarrhea after scoffing loads of horse muck and it didn't clear up despite two vet visits, injections ABs and a diet of chicken and rice.  I got some Pro Kolin for him which was brilliant and he went onto Royal Canin Sensitive Control kibble which seems to have done the trick.  I don't want to put him back onto Beta puppy due to the poor quality ingredients.  My other dogs are on Arden Grange Lamb & Rice which they are all okay on and I was going to get some Arden Grange puppy, but wondered what other people use.

Arden grange is a good quality balanced diet. The puppy formula has the correct nutrients for a growing pup so id say if you are opting for this do it very gradually over 7-10 days as it sounds like your pup has a delicate gut. Add a bit of natural yoghurt into the meals too to help the gut flora recover from the squits.

The csj range is good and reasonably priced. I know many working and agility dogs who do very well on it.

Well I'm going to give Wainwrights a try, it seems to have reasonable reviews and is a lot cheaper than some of the dry foods.  If it doesn't work out I'll probably revert back to Royal Canin till pup is old enough to try the AG lamb & Rice.

Burns & royal canin we sold loads of at the vets & both are around £30-£40 a 15-20kg bag & we were always ordering it in x

Another vote here for CSJ.  Reasonable prices, excellent advice and the only food I have found that keeps weight on my Pointer dog.  And a good range of protein content depending upon your dogs particular needs.

Not sure if they do puppy food but we have used SKinners for the last few years.  THey are for working dogs so are VAT free, and the duck and rice is hypoallergenic which is good as our german shepherd x husky kept getting the runs on everything else we tried.  It has almost identical ingredients to Burns duck and rice (I think it was Burns) but is about half the price.

Yep, skinners do a puppy food, Jake was recently on it, now both of my borders (terriers) are on duck and rice. both seem to love it so i'm a happy bunny as well.

Well I've had a nightmare of trying to get the right food!  I started the Wainwrights but he was still doing loose stools.  I then tried AG puppy but it seemed to get worse.  I was recommended James Wellbeloved by the store assistant who said vets very often recommended JW for the symptoms my pup has.  He has had non-stop loose poos and the most vile wind problems!! 


I realise that it's not good to change diet so often but I have two sacks of JW to get through and I'm going to just stick with it and give his gut a chance to settle down.  If it doesn't, not sure where to go from here ... 


I've ordered a tub of Protexin Profibre to add to meals to see if that helps ...

I have a Golden Retreiver who we rescued as a 4 month old puppy. At the time she was producing lakes of poo, it was so bad - poor little bugger.

We were recommended to put her onto James Wellbeloved, which she's still on 14 years later and we've had no further problems in that department since.

Try yoghurt with his food, and overfeeding can cause the runs too so make sure you gauge the correct amount for his weight - use your own scales to weigh him.

Have you dropped off a poo sample to the vets? Could have Campylobactor/Giardia/ bactrial over growth. May need a week of Panacure (at special dose rate) or antibiotics.
