Also crate him for a morning and afternoon nap when he is tired and you are still around. You can give him rest time too with a kong stuffed with treats to chew on in his crate so it is a nice place to be but with no interaction from people when you can get on with housey things so you are still around but ignore him. This way he learns no screaming gets attention. Only ever open the door when he is settled and quiet ( even if it means a long wait for that three seconds of quiet when the door then gets opened. Ignore him for the first five minutes of opening the crate ( if he is likely to need the toilet in this time walk to the door and open it onlynspeaking tom praise toiling, but try to avoid likelyntoilet times for crate training if possible )
A very good book of puppy tips and behaviour is 'the Perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey. I still look through when bringing on a pup just to refresh for the basics that can be missed but can make training so much easier.
