hi one of my eight month old girls seem to be developing black lumps on the inside of her nostrils doesnt seem to be bothering her at the moment but would like some advice, some cade lambs we had back in feb developed a little orf but this was on there lips and seemed different to this,any advice welcomed thanks

Goats do get orf as well, but I would have expected them to get it back in feb with the lambs- unless you kept goats and lambs well separated. Orf does remain on fence posts etc, so if you have moved the goats into a field now, that the sheep were in then, it's possible.


Other than that, I don't know of much that would cause that. Any thing else looking odd?

would it be possible to have a picture? interested to learn more about what this could be    we've not had lumps in the nostrils but our Vanna gets black dots off of her feed where she's greedily breathed and gulped it down.

Two of my goats have got orf now.
Several had thistle rash earlier in the year.
Obviously different when you see both.

In all the years that we have kept goats we have never (touch wood) had orf
we have actualy got the chance of 3 Boers that where going out of the country but days before they where due to go they developed orf so the sale was cancelled
They have had antibiotics and its cleared up, anyone got experiance of orf know how long it would be before its safe to bring them home as the last thing we need is all 8 goats already here to come down with it

Orf takes about a fortnight to heal up, whether they get treatment for it or not. Best to wait a fortnight after the last ones scabs heal I would think.

turned out to be some bloody dried snot in the end of nostrils, caused by some over zealous eating of a load of brambles down the bottom of the yard, found out by following the little saanans to find out why they had blotches on them, tilly is dark in colour so didnt see the blotches so well on her , phew another worry solved, thanks for you input
