The other Hampshire that I had, that according to the vet was not in pig, just overweight.... is definitely in pig and about to drop    No milk yet, but she has bagged up nicely, much more clearly than the other gilt.  As the other farrowing went so well indoors, we have placed this gilt in an old brick dairy, and have set up the creep/creche area again.

Everything was perfect until she decided to tip her huge water trough over, and then when I tried to refill, leaving her to get other jobs done, she got hold of the hose (stupidly  I thought she would leave it ALONE, having given her new barley bales to play with, and tons of freshly dug up whole celery plants, with really juicy muddy roots to eat)  and absolutely drenched everything further! I have had to sweep water away and hope that it disperses through the bricks. There are now puddles on the concrete floor

Thanks everyone.  Will keep you all informed....fingers crossed it will all go as well as last time.
Yes lill I am still using this vet AND I paid for his visit  on the basis that he has, in the past, spent over 45 mins on the phone to me about our plans to strip graze, boar choice, health risks etc... and his colleague rang me back once, for 15 mins about a gilt that had gone lame.  I've been with this practice for such a long time and they have always been brilliant.

I still feel that his feeding advice was right and am definately going to follow it. It ties in with what the abattoir and butchers reckon and with the one GOS/LB batch that I did that came out too fatty.

i too have been with our vets for many years however if he could not tell a fat pig from a pig in pig i would have to reconsider my partnership with him. as for back fat as has been said in previous posts back fat comes from over feeding with a traditional breed we should hold the feed at 4lb unless you can see the growth is slow then up to 4 1/2 - 5 lb its all done by eye rather than by a chart or book.

Well shes a right one this SOW!   We checked her this morning, mucked out the damp straw from yesterday's palava, a little bit of milk from just one of teats. Thought nothing of it, she was up and about, had a good amount of feed, a lovely belly rub etc. 

Ummm. Thought tonight, maybe they will come....probably tomorrow night.   Headed off to town, bit of shopping, had a leisurely lunch out etc, got back.....11 healthy piglets all suckling nicely.      all done and dusted. 

A good day for us today. Car passed it's MOT without problems, had time all together mooching around (a real treat, we always seem to be so busy), 11 perfect piglets and NOW NO NEED TO GET UP IN THE NIGHT  Hoooray!!!!!

All still alive this morning, non squashed - they haven't got to the creep yet, Mum has not ventured that way. typically she likes the diagonal side to the room 
 Mum eating and drinking, feeding little ones nicely.  Just so happy
Our other piglets, now almost 2 weeks old look HUGE in comparison to these, just so chunky and solid.

For two over-fat, un-pregnant pigs, you (and they) have done very well!!!   Not so sure I'd have much faith in all your vet says after this amazing result.  Congratulations anyway, and I too can't wait to see some photos, of both lots of piglets, and their mums too if possible.      Tamsaddle

I agree with Tams about your vet tho - ok maybe missing 1 with only 4 piglets is a bit of an error, but 2, especially one of them with 11
