Plum jam

Chopped 2lb plums, bit of water and 2lb sugar, according to my recipe book,

Seems very simple, just need to boil it up I guess (I've got a thermometer), is it really this simple?

Never made jam before, should I add anything else eg cinnamon to make it extra special?

Any advice, as always, gratefully recieved

Alistair, yes it really is that simple.  I like plum jam as it is so wouldn't be tempted to add anything extra myself.  Maybe make it as the recipe says for this time and then you can add things according to your taste next time.
By the way apple and plum chutney is scrummy

 :thumbsup:  brilliant! we make oodles of plum jam (well by 'we' I mean I make it and 7 year old India is chief tester!) I agree that it doesn't need anything adding, especially victoria plums. Sometimes I make it with brandy for a Christmas conserve though.

Ooh that sounds nice.  And you'd have to use up the rest of the bottle or it'd go to waste.   :roflanim:

OOh plum jam on a huge wedge of freshly baked home made bread with real butter. Who could want more in life?

Sooooo jealous - I have no plums this year and we are down to our last few jars of last years jam.  I love it especially the victoria.  I have added mulling syrup before for a seasonal jam.  Its lovely but I much prefer 'neat' plum jam  :yum:
Doing that swan thing - cool and calm on the surface but paddling like crazy beneath.

I confess - I cheated. :innocent:    I had a bottle in the cupboard so thought I'd try it in plum jam and it worked  ;D .  I guess you could use traditional mulling spices in muslin though.
