I have a boar with a temp of 40 and his breathing is rapid. Unable to get hold of vet. Unable to get fluid into him. He won't swallow.


Any ideas how I can keep him comfortable until we can get the vet which will probably in the morning.

Have you any peniciilin/ penstrip to hand,i would give him 10 ml just until u can get hold of vet,sorry but that all i can think of?

gave him a jab 2 hours ago - temp drop to 38 but still rapid breathing. Vet now in contact and we have some medication 'genxine'.

Have you any large syringes or squity sports bottles ? You could try squirting some water into the side of his gum, it might encourage him - or melon  Tastes nice and is plenty juicy so will keep him a bit more hydrated than nothing.
Poor lad 
Is he off his feet or still moving around ? Seem disorientated at all ?
If he's a light skinned breed and you've had some of the unseasonal warm, sunny weather it might be heatstroke - of course, there are hundreds of things it might be, so please don't take that as a diagnosis...... just thinking out loud

Sounds like pneumonia which given the current weather in europe hot & cold, damp & warm alternately is no surprise.
Fluids are vital an empty water/pop bottle filled with water, then force into corner of mouth and pour, rub his throat while you do it to make him swallow, you MUST get fluids into him, hope he's ok

i'm sorry to hear that
we had a poorly girl and even the vet said its hard to get fluids in them as they can't have drench (like sheep) or IV fluids- like cattle can.

i was going to add that u can syringe fluids up his bum to help hydrate him, thats what the vet told us to do when we had a sick piglet.
