If he has a holding number then getting ear tags is easy. It'd be a lot easier to rehome him that way, certainly more legal!

He's going to struggle to rehome without a holding number Carl. He needs to get onto the people and explain  - its just a phonecall essentially. once that's sorted he can tag and the goat will get a good home more easily.

animal welfare people at his local trading standards office. I think the defra website has the lists of the numbers. Ideally we all have to have CPH numbers BEFORE any livestock (even belonging to others) enters out land but if he explains that he didn't know or whatever, they are usually quite reasonable

Carl, there is always a good chance that this little goat has come from somewhere also not abiding by either the law OR general goat welfare (eg. has the goat been CAE checked, wormed, vaccinated etc)
If the seller allowed your friend to take to a home without holding number it could mean he also didn't have one.
By law we have to complete a movement form which includes writing the holding numbers of both places on there - this was obviously not a priority in the same it seems  ???

It is a pain but its for a very good reason I'm afraid  :)
