so, how did it go in FORFAR ? !!!!!!!!!
« on: October 01, 2012, 01:43:34 pm »
How did it all go in Forfar yesterday?

I couldn't go because I have an infection in my face (sounds stupid I know) but have been on antibiotics and have been in agony.   :unwell:  After booking show pens etc, was most upset not to be going.  Have been checking in on here all morning to find out how it all went.

Someone come on and let us know!

From the 'sheep' and 'goat' side all went well. It was very busy so didn't great a lot of time to see the rest of things going on. Finally met Happy Hippy, Rosemary and Sally in the North (in my eyes the sheep expert).

Best bit of my day was seeing (from the sheep ring) OH in a white coat showing my pygmy kid!! He did fine and Domino didn't seem too worried by the whole experience.

Lots of people were interested in rare breed sheep so very positive from that aspect.

Would like to add a big thank you to Rosemary, Dan and their helpers for making a great show.

Oh and I was really chuffed when my shetland ewe got first in her class Wool on the hoof - it's all about the taking part but rossetts are even better  :excited: :excited:
Pygmy Goats, Shetland Sheep, Zip & Indie the Border Collies, BeeBee the cat and a wreak of a building to renovate!!

I think it went really well, much better than I certainly dared hope or dream it would  :relief:
We're all very pleased  ;D

The whole atmosphere was really positive, there were a few niggles and teething troubles (course there were, we'd never organised anything like this before  :o) but on the whole I don't think it spoiled anything and I didn't hear any major complaints.

We're looking forward to next year already  :excited: :excited: :excited:

The show was great, everybody seemed to have happy faces on. It was our first time entering animals at a show and we thoroughly enjoyed it, will definitely be doing it again. We only took 2, a pig and a cockerel, think we will take along more if poss next time. Our Kune gilt won 3rd prize in her category, but our star of the show was our Ixworth cockerel who won 1st in his category and then went on to win best utility bird. I am very proud of him, although he did not enjoy himself at all!

before we left home in the morning saying "im never doing this again" to a hyper car of making plans for next year on the way home!!
A first for my Kune Kune piglet and a "best newcomer" trophy for me, 10 year old daughter came home with firsts in young handlers and came home with a cup, platter and a medal, happy hippy soap, TAS tshirt in her goodybag (i dread her chat at breaktime to her pals).
8 year old got 2 firsts in the craft section (and £10) in her pocket!
I also got a 2nd for my breakfast sausage!!

The very nice judge also gave the junior handlers some money to get an ice cream! They couldnt find an ice cream stall so i think the sweetie stall did rather well!
The dog got a brilliant spaniel water bowl that i had been looking for and lots of Awwws and cuddles from people.
I met, Happy Hippy and Mr Happy Hippy looked after us well, Tiva Diva and Rispain farm were next to us, Beewyched, Robert and Lillian, saw Brucklays sign, chatted to lots of people and some had travelled a fair distance to come.
Interviewed by Ewan, wished id known what he was going to ask.....got good answers now but not on the spot grrrrrr.

Absolutely shattered by the time we got home apart from  the 10 year old!!

Thanks to everyone who made it a fab day for us

the best bit of the day for me    (my sense of humour)  was the pig judge giving a telling off to Ewan macilrath   when he interupted the judging to interview Allison and co   talk about a face like a skelpt arse (Ewan's) :roflanim: :roflanim:

We enjoyed the judge's comments - would have liked to know sometimes how the judges for the sheep and goats had arrived at their decision, so especially for pig novices like us the comments were really helpful. Didn't see the filming interruption, though... Got there (to the pigs) too late, really!

yes the comments from the judges are very good and helpfull the owners will take the comments better from a judge rather than from an other owner      every competitor has the perfect pig /sheep/goat or cow    and it is only when a judge comments that you realise you have been sold a lemon     some of the pigs i have seen forward at English shows should never be ne'er the ring never mind be breed from  :farmer:

I am soooo shattered today.. and I didn't even organise anything.... Good turn-out and my girls certainly improved the state of their piggy banks with the prize money they won in the goat section.
We really did enjoy ourselves, chatted to quite a few people and had to push a very inquisitive Shetland lamb back into her pen (several times) as she was helping herself to my goat feed... because of that (and watching the sheep judging) I didn't really get to any of the demonstrations...
hear hear for an ice cream van next year! (but the burgers were nice and there were enough chairs to sit down!
Thank you Dan & Rosemary for the idea and organisation (with all your helpers) of what surely should become an annual feature in Scotland!

I DID try to get an icecream van but they wouldn't come 'cos "it's too late in the year for ice cream".

I will do my very best to make sure there is icecream there next year
