A sieve, with a bit of muslin in it? Guess you might not have muslin lying around!

We used to use nappy liners, but I think they probably have chemicals in them now.

Using a bit of linen/cotton is good, and you probably have something suitable- even if its a pillowcase.

I just use muslin any way, no suppliers up here at all for anything unless you have a pony. Everything has to be posted up from Ascot and they are very good and get things in the post ASAP if you explain the situation. Postage does not warrant me getting commercial gear so I make do and mend wirth a lot of stuff.

I use muslins all the time, lining a sieve over a jug.  I just rinse them out afterwards and soak in very  hot water with a bit of washing up liquid in for several hours then rinse well and hang them up to dry.  I have three on the go at any time, one in soak, one drying and one ready for next milking.

Exactly the same here.  My local crafty shop sells muslin / cheesecloth at £2.40/m, 1m wide.

The one I bought is called butter muslin.  I found it in a fabric shop so doubt is was ever designed with butter in mind.  I've never used filters.  I did start with using kitchen towels but they're not as good as muslin.

Yep, anything papery may break down and you get paper in the milk plus aren't filtering any more.  Cloth seems to keep itself together better.  If you think the muslin isn't fine enough, use a double layer.  :)

Every so often I put the muslins in the dishwasher.  No that is not a mistake.  My washing machine goes on at 30C and the dishwasher is much hotter so muslins and dishclothes get hung over the front of the basket when the dishwasher goes on and it does a lovely job.
