What age
« on: September 17, 2012, 10:31:04 pm »
What age do Boer Billy Kids usualy show an interest in the girls. William is now 7 months old and so far has not shown any interest in the Girls.
Blossom is in the next pen to him and she has come into season today but he is not at all interested in her  :o

I would have thought by now he should be interested definitely... I would put them into a pen together and observe. I have used a male kid on a (larger) goatling last year and he was VERY keen. Needed a careful arrangement using the step into the goatshed to give the boy a bit of height though...

Maybe his interests lie in a different direction.  Have you tried him in with another male?   :roflanim:

Not tried him with another Male as he is the only one we have and he is only here as someone couldnt keep him so we took him on after years of saying no billy

Is he smelly, pee-ing himself and generally behaving like any male goat would at this time of year? If not, maybe the absence of a male "role model" is the reason? Have you felt if his balls are right and proper? What do you know about his parentage?  Is he horned/disbudded or polled?

He is just starting to smell a bit over the last couple of weeks, its usualy when you open the shed up on a morning that its noticable.
He definatly has 2 VERY BIG balls  ::) He has been disbudded
All I know about his parents is that they are both BBGS registered 100% Boer and CAE negative

Well he may just be a late starter... ???
The reason I was asking after his parentage/horns is that in the case of polled to polled mating you could have a sterile billy.

Fingers crossed that's what it is
He is starting to interact with the others now where before everyone bullied him and he spent his time avoiding them

Well if it is any consolation - my castrated BT wether kid is trying to mount any female in sight at the moment. I have checked - no balls definitely... (it was done by the vet!), but I almost feel sorry for him... Looks like goat curry is on the menu earlier than planned...

My castrated Sanaan x has evil designs towards his mother.  She's not at all impressed.

The ladies can definitely tell if it is the real thing or just a wether messing about... my girls are just getting fed up with the BT boy... but he is not deterred, so had to bring him inside today when everybody else is outside in the (rare) beautiful sunshine.

My boy is running with 2 castrated males - getting plenty of practise!  :o
Let's just hope he hasn't decided they are preferable to the females.
