will they ever grow again???
« on: September 17, 2012, 02:49:25 pm »
We dicussed the story of the wee featherless hen here before - since she's been isolated (around 6-7weeks) she has regrown some feathers. Looks like the vet and some of you were right - she had been bullied then. Her back is still very bare, no new shafts seem to come up and her skin is still ooking very rosy. I'm worried about the cold season and if they'll have a go at her again once released.... :chook: :&>

You can get 'saddles' which are for stopping the cockerel wearing out the back feathers. But I think they would give a bit of protection from the weather and the others pecking the feather shafts too.

Have you tried her with some poultry spice in her food - has minerals in which are supposed to help when re-feathering, plus plenty of protein.
