Slaughter day

Well, They arrived on 11 may at 8 weeks old that is our 2 GOSboys.I am sure that we have given them a good life ,good food and a large area to live in.So the day arrived that we had penciled in on the calender and it as gone ok, lets hope the meat will be ok. :fc:

Thanks for the replies,Bumblebear it does feel odd with them gone has we are first timers i also had a lamb slaughtered aswell.Igot trailer and paper work ready yesterday ,so it was up early load animals, scrape ice off windscreen yes it is August and off to Talgarth for 7am.

By buying your 2 GOS for eating, you've encouraged someone else to breed a rare breed.  You're going to get fantastic meat and know exactly what went into it and how it grew.  You can't beat it :thumbsup:   Well done.
If you take more next time, you can sell halves to other people (who will love it), get your half free plus perhaps a little 'salary' for all your efforts.  Win win win.

 Mammyshaz yes we will do it again next year ,maybe get gilts and go for 8 to 9 months rather than 6 months with boars and then have loads of sausage and bacon!!

Funnily enough, I am kind of looking forward to eating the lamb...getting impatient in fact!  But the pigs....

It is my first time too.

This sounds soooooo familar. Must have been the day yesterday as I took 4 of our 8 lambs in :'(
Walking down to the paddock yesterday evening to give the remainder some pellets just wasn't the same.
Betsy & belinda (2*Large Blacks) will be off in the next couple of weeks & then the remaining 4 lambs will go.
It will be very quite then....until next year when we can start all again  ;D
