Oh no!!
« on: August 29, 2012, 02:48:14 pm »
Went to a big farm sale on Saturday, plenty of lots.  Rained overnight, and then heavens opened at lunchtime, so you can imagine the field and car park field  were bad.  It was fun getting back onto the road.
There were ducks, turkeys and bantams, sold with their huts.  Looked carefully, and picked a hut of 5 - one looked like it may turn into a cockerel, but other 4 hens.  Auctioneer said there were 5, so off we went.  Knocked down to me.  Loaded the hut into the pick up, came home.  Sited hut, put feed and water in, checked they had all survived the journey .....and thats when I saw IT!!    Sitting looking  at me was a funny looking small black cockerel, with a large comb, distinctive white ears very dumpy looking and no tail ....although its tail may have come out.  What is it??
Definitely was not in the hut when I looked (and I checked twice at separate times before the bantams were sold). So, someone had put the cockerel out of a hut they were bidding at, or added that one to the hut, thinking they were getting it.  Whatever, I now have this little strange looking bird!!

I will get a pic when I unearth the camera.  He is a friendly little thing, comes and looks up and me - rather comical looking.  Thinking back, the heavens opened, we all ran for cover, including the auctioneer.  Probably someone took their chance, and switched him from one cage to another :)   Not heard him crow yet.

Cross-bred Pekin maybe?  Hope you grow to  him anyway :) .  I have just taken in a funny little black dumpy thing (was told she was a Silkie - yeah, right) - but she is very sweet.
There is some real skullduggery at our local poultry sales  :innocent: :innocent:

Ahhhh Bramblecot, you bet me to it  ;D .
Was about to ask if the little fella had feathery feet ... cause a pekin came to mind.
Love my peeks and the little cockerels are such characters.
