Someone must want some!!!!!!
« on: August 03, 2012, 06:34:58 pm »
No-one has yet taken any of my beautiful Muscovy ducks and I am filling in auction sales forms daily as I don't want to eat them (well I do actually but only as a last resort).  I am inundated with girlies, about 10-1 on the minority boys which is quite lucky I expect (although I am more inclined to eat boys).

I will be at the Lanark auction on 31st August and Carlisle sale on 22nd September if that's any help, otherwise I can make it to the Carter Bar on the border fairly easily.

£15 ducks /drakes
£10 half grown ducklings
special price on mum and pot luck ducklings (all Muscovy) depending on how many ducklings she has

All colours, pure and mixed, please be aware they fly but not long distances (won't fly away) and are more goose like than duck like (you still have to feed though) and are not afraid of people.

I'm on 077696 83292 or you can pm me on here if you like.  Many thanks.

This is so unfair   :'(  :'(  :'(

We are too far away (Norfolk) If there was any way of getting them I would gladly have half a dozen at least!!   Have spent months looking for muscovy's - Just can't get them in Norfolk  >:(   We have 1 muscovy male with a couple of female mallards, but would kill for some female muscovies!!
Sheep: North Ronaldsay & 4 Horned Hebridean - We also breed & exhibit 3 breeds of rabbit - Chinchilla, Deilenaar (rare breed) & Colour Pointed English Angora.

We have loads but they are all still with their mums and I won't let them go until they are bigger and am sure which are males and females.  Should have some ready to go in about latter half of October and pretty much on a 2 or 3 week basis from then on until Christmas - we just had another big hatch last week and another hatch due in this next week so they just keep on coming.  Sure we will have something for you if you could hang on a wee bit.
Many thanks.

That''s sounds great. I live in the highlands and will be in Edinburgh the middle week of October, I will get in touch closer to the time to see if that suits you and to hopefully arrange collection.

Amanda,
How do you get a succesion of ducks rather than all mums sitting at the same time. One of our layers stopped as soon as others ducklings arrived. At one stage we had 62 eggs being sat on but would prefer a succesion like you have managed.
Any tips please ?

Hi Martin, no tips I'm afraid - we had about 7 females at the start of the year and they just keep multiple sitting in places we either can't find them or underneath a building which is slightly raised up and we can't reach their eggs to use ourselves, they just kept appearing with a dozen+, so that's it - ignore them for a bit and they'll have done it again.

Maybe there was a competition going on, the biggest hatch is still the first one we had this year of 17 from Sister Bernadette (our black and white Muscovy) who I think was pinching all her peers eggs too.  Come to think of it, haven't seen her for a week or so ....  ::)

Fiona, if you send me a personal message on here and let me know where in Angus you are - most of our boys are (reluctantly) going for the chop as they are getting to an age where they are getting fruity with what girls I have left - I may be up your way in the next couple of weeks and I have 2 females from last year who I could pass on having brought up their broods.  They will be 1 year old girls and experienced mums which is always helpful if you're breeding.  Otherwise I am still waiting for wee ones to grow to a stage I can see they're  male or female, so a few weeks yet!  Pity about none at the show - I was supposed to be there showing but have had a virus thing going on and wasn't, was most upset.
