lamb with squinty eyes
« on: July 12, 2012, 10:27:30 pm »
Have a 3 day old lamb that looked to be doing really well. Went to ring her tail today and noticed that both her eyes are nearly shut and she has a sore on her head. Put iodine on the sore and bought her and mum into a nice warm stable for the night. She is lookong well apart from that. We have a lot of crows about and a fox lurking. Could she have been pecked or bitten? Should I get antibiotics for her or just keep up with iodine and care? She has a bit of a pooey bum but I've put that down to mum being on rich wet grass. Our other lambs had it too and it went after a few days. Xxx

How's her breathing?  Any discharge from the eyes?  Or nose?  Is her face clean or has she got muck on it which could have got into her eyes?

I looked a little closer and it definitely looks like she was bitten or pecked. Small cut under tail and a sore on her head. Have cleaned it up and purple sprayed. Looks like her eyes are closed a little because she was sore. No discharge from anywhere apart from the mucky bum. Her poo is fine though so I guess her tummy is ok now. Will keep a close eye on her.
