Hi my name is Phil  and I'm in South Wales. We have 8 acres of wet ,clay welsh land on which at the moment are our horses, but I have a cunning plan  :innocent:

Hi Phil  from wet cold Cumbria.  We shall enjoy seeing your plan unfold...  :)
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Welcome to the forum from Carmarthenshire, where it was lovely and sunny this morning (for a change) but we are back to the dreary wet now  :(

Hi folks I'm in Carmarthenshire too just outside Ammanford.  Phase 1 of the plan involved purchasing a tractor ( which took the better half a lot of persuading ). Phase 2 has commenced with a small corner turned over to raised beds .

Hi baldrick (aka Phil) - no such probs with the soil here in northampton but envious of your tractor all the same.
Is the plan an enterprise or a hobby or a bit of both?
Cmon dont tease.

Hi o mighty composto I'm a coalmerchant and have other commitments so at the moment the smallholding is a hobby.  I'm trying to keep it enjoyable not a burden. I've started land drainage but it's too wet to continue  ::). I also have a shelter to erect before winter and we're doing an extension on the house that's now up to slab level. Also my motorbike keeps making longing eyes at me to take her out  :eyelashes:. So plenty to do

Do you have a cunning plan for soggy clay and livestock? I'm running out of ideas to stop my small amount of Somerset pasture turning into a permanent quagmire.
