I have an ex batt who I noticed cough a couple of tumes when they all went to bed last night. Should I panic or do they sometimes cough if its a bit dusty? She seems well apart from that

Damp, dust and poor ventillation in the coop all lead to chest infections Plt102. If you catch and rectify the situation immediately she may recover without medication.

Every now and again our hens have the same problem - ours are quickly cured by a few drops of citricidal in the drinking water.  Very rapid / very reliable.

Another cause of cough is gapeworm. It can be passed from earthworms, snails and slugs. Flubenvet recommend worming once then again 3 weeks later if this is suspected.

Whatever it is, best to sort it now while she is still seeming well, than battling when the problem begins to cause ill effect.

Thanks for that information. Will start flubanvet today and look for the other stuff. They have lots of ventilation so that shouldn't be a prob but ill check everything out today. Fingers crossed. X

Worming all the hens with flubanvet at the moment buw more are sneezing. Will order the citricidal stuff today to see if that helps. Any other ideas ishould try if that doesn't work?

I use the citricidal because I was advised by the vet & havent had further problems & I assume that the weather isnt helping.
