Bald chest patch
« on: July 06, 2012, 01:52:26 pm »
Went in to see my girls this morning and saw that one has a bald chest patch.  Having looked it up I presume this is prelude to her going broody, but have to say, the patch itself looks a bit sore and extended a little.  is this normal?  None of them did this last year, although they are young birds (16 months).  Could it be something else?

Is she plucking herself? could be a protein deficiency, lice or stress if so.

I hung around to watch - but it doesn't look like either she is doing it or any of the others!  I am having to wait for OH so we can catch her!  She's wiley!   ;D

They do tend to develop a bald area underneath when they are about to go broody but I have never noticed the area looking red.

Is the patch underneath her ...... her tummy as it were?
