Which ones do you use?  I believe the pigs were wormed by the breeder but want to give them some also.  We do give the Verm-X, but this isn't an actual wormer I am told?

We've used flubenol powder in the past as an oral wormer, or notomectin/ivermectin as an injectable.

We always suggest before embarking on any worming programme to carry out a worm count on the animals.

No point treating a problem that may not exist.

Ditto what we do, VermX is a herbal wormer but i'm not convinced its up to the job.

Give em an injection it's not difficult and a/ it's a lot cheaper than panacur pellets or similar and b/ you know exactly what you've given to each pig.

Worm counts - who does them, is it the same people that would do horse worm counts?

Injections - who does them, is a vet needed, if not, where do we get from any where do we jab?

SFS who comes on here sells worm count kits, so he'll be along to shortly to explain how that works.
Jabs - i collect form the vet Noramectin or Doramectin or you can buy Dectomax over the counter at the ag store think its 1ml per 33kg of pig! Read the label. Worming jabs are done sub-cutaneous which means just underneath the skin, best place is just behind the ear and out a couple of inches above shoulder.
You can get the vet to show you first time but it will be a dear do (see other topic on here) or if you have a breeder near you if asked they who might come and show you.
If they're fatteners remember they can't go to the butchers for 28 days after jabbing. And remember to enter all in your meds records.

Sorry, I know this is an old post, but is flubenol powder still the best wormer to use?
I use an injection wormer (bimectin) for my sows, but i can't do my weaners - far too lively!!

Panacur is probably better (but much more expensive), flubenol is ok at a push - injectable is the way to go IMHO you know that every pig has had the right dose.
It's worth getting used to catching and jagging the wriggly little buggers as a matter of course Pen your weaners when you wean them and as long as there's someone to hold them (across the persons chest, supporting the pig underneath with one arm and a firm grip on their front or hind leg, the other hand keeping their head secured in tight against your chest) jabbing them is way more effective

Thanks, I will give it another go with the injection when I have some help.  I called them weaners but they are 4 months old now, so getting past the 'holding' stage!
