), only this mum was confined due to injury - and went broody

. I mainly meant a natural arrival of a duckling

took 5 years, only happened once when we were absolute beginners - we've had a few kindly incubated by other TAS members but having one from birth is something else

Yes, shame it's the only one, I was hoping that she gave the other eggs a chance, one was definitely making the right noises yesterday but today they are cold...and silent

Oh how sweet, we have a broody duck 'Ludo' that doesn't lay eggs so she finds a clutch and then sits on them - she attacks if you get close!! Aren't ducks mad

, Dad's quarter Call, quarter Indian Bantam , half KC, mum is probably half IR , half KC

and I'll keep calling it a she just to use some magic

Pick her up and get her to talk into your ear. If she sounds like she's got a slightly sore throat, she's a boy. If she's got a clear 'pipe' she's a girl <from my Dad, the duck whisperer

wee one got out this morning - an enourmous screech I could hear in the kitchen (and I always listen to stories and am half deaf

) - I thought a hen had been taken! Went out and baby duckling had squeezed through a gap in the bars of the run (fixed now!) so it must have been mum! My chance to pick it up and listen - crystal clear peeps only, so there is hope that it's a girl
