We had one PTS last year - Hubby took him to the vet and they arranged disposal via approved method and then we just paid with an invoice at the end of the month.
I remember someone I know burying a lamb not long after I'd gone through the heartbreak of watching my beautiful pedigree nanny goat being thrown into the knackervan. So hard when they really feel like pets but the law says they have to go in the way it does. I guess we have the laws for a reason though. Sorry to hear of your little lamb luckylady

The deed is done Cyril has been collected.  Knackerman was really nice and parked at the back of the barn out of view.  Sad time but its onwards and upwards as they say, the other animals need my attention.
I'm still hoping to beat the odds with the other three lambs and now know through bitter experience how systemically fragile bottle fed lamb are.  Have brilliant support from local vets having worked there previously and neighbouring farmer is always on hand for further advice, as well as, of course, the support from fellow 'Accidental Smallholders'.   Thanks all.

I lost a 'pet' lamb at 5 weeks last year, sorry  .  But we took her to the yard ourselves and it cost 50p, all paperwork supplied.

Thanks Bramblecot.     I did consider taking the lamb to the knackers yard myself but its quite a treck and tbh didn't think I could stomach what I might see or smell especially in this hot weather.

Phoned Animal Health office regarding long awaited holding register only to be told 'oh no we don't send them out anymore'.  Well you may want to retrain your front line staff in this knowledge as I was told otherwise when I registered. (not that I acutally said this).  Anyway sussed out where to download copy and printed off minus the reems of continuation sheets within.  Disappointed to find no record sheet for administered medications though - would have thought that logical to include.  Will produce my own as surely batch numbers of meds, date of administration etc should be recorded.
Tonights task - transfer all information from 'dairy diary' to holding register!
Have definitely discovered that as a novice sheep keeper you cannot rely on the authorities to set you on the right path regarding official paperwork though I'm sure I could rely on them to 'repremand' if its not done correctly.  There are so many different departments to deal with and none of them seem to communicate effectively.  One department even told me it was fine to go ahead and get my pet lambs before I had my CPH number.  I didn't, of course, but it makes me wonder who would.

Postcode lottery (as with many things these days). I think I was lucky with our local Animal health bod's as they were very informative prior to my buying in stock but then the visit they did here was very useful too - never once did I feel scrutinised or nervous, in fact she left me with the words that my animals are being cared for incredibly well.phew.
