Doris is my chicken with the prolapse.  I cleaned and pushed it back in 4 times yesterday.  I have checked on her this morning and its back out again.

Currently she is being kept in isolation, in the dark with minimal feed. Should I continue to bathe and push it back in or would it be kinder to 'let her go'?

Maybe just a bit longer so long as she seems ok in her self?  Is it worth trying some Preparation H to see if that helps.

Kegs, she seems ok in herself although a bit put out and subdued for being in the dark in a cardboard box.  This morning she is in a small compound on her own thats darkish but not dark like the box was.

I started off on Thursday evening with honey and then did that Fri morning too. Then I progressed to Prep H. She has now had that 3 times, including this morning.

She makes absolutely no fuss when I 'do her' so I will perservere for a bit longer.

Pleased Doris is settled Bionic. Bit concerned it keeps coming out, but perhaps it will settle overnight. Otherwise I think perhaps PTS as it isn't going to mend.

Has no one advised you to try anusol? I have used it a few times and it always works for me,I might add that my girls did not sound as bad as yours,they had prolapsed but I always use the anusol on first sight,I do not know what any one else would suggest but this does actually shrink things back,I personally would at least try it before I decided to let her go.

(p.s.,if you go an buy it,don't tell them you wish to use it for chickens!~I purchased some Calendula gel to use on my Sal and was chatting in the chemist and said it was for one of my hens,she said,you are not supposed to tell me that?!!)

Just checked on Doris and the 'bits' have remained in place. 

Last time I needed to push them back was yesterday morning.  Considering it was 4 times the day before it seems like she is on the mend.

Her back end is looking nice and fluffy again.

She is still in isolation, and will remain that way for a bit as she is on a special diet but things are definitely looking up

Brilliant news.  Well done for looking after her so well.

Well done Sally    I had an ex-battery hen that was like that for about a week.  Eventually it all stayed put and she went on to live to a ripe old age.  Not sure if she ever laid eggs again but she went on to become broody and hatched a clutch of bantam eggs for me.

Great news Bionic. So it did settle overnight and there was me being all gloomy!

Good tip about Anusol Legorn. But as we aren't planning on getting any more hybrids I may never need to try it.
