Hi everyone,

As novice keepers of various creatures thought we'd sign up here and hopefully tap into some of the knowledge that is out there as there are many times where we ponder if everything is going right!  Hopefully share some useful bits too.  Live a little north of Inverness.  Anyway look forward to sharing learning blahing etc on here.  For info we have Middle White Sow (piglets any day), Castlemilk Moorit Sheep (Lambs any day), Golden Guernsey Goat (just had twins), and the obligatory chickens of varying origin.  Cheers

Hello. I lived and worked in Inverness for 2 years and I loved it - it is a beautiful place to stay. I have a Golden Geurnesy Cross, she is now aged 12 and is a brilliant pet. I have to say though that last week we added 2 boy British Toggenburgs and her and her companions noses are well out of joint at the moment. That will change soon though as they all get on well enough and the kids don't bother them too much.

I love Inverness too, my sister and her family live there so I visit quite often.

Hi and welcome, if you breed Golden Guernsey goats I would think you will very quickly become popular.  Its the most sought after goat amongst my friends.

Thanks for the welcomes....such fast replies!  Yep Inverness is a pretty good place, well at least the surrounding area, I don't really make it into the big city much....all of 15 miles away!  I have to say that as first time goat keepers we absolutely love Golden guernseys.  So many people were so negative about getting goats...."oh goats are such a nuisance", "they'll destroy everything", "you'll never keep them in", "goats milk.....bleuch!"
I don't know why there seems to be a lot of bad press about goats, as far as I can tell mostly from people who used to keep a single goat tethered in the garden....no wonder it was a pain.  Anyway (touches wooden coffe table) so far they are brilliant, easy to herd about, eat our nettles (whoohoo!) and Sunamy our doe is giving us plenty of delicious milk.  I do have a slight milking concern/query so will put a post in the goaty section of the forum and hopefully someone can help out.

I live near Falkirk, and we have (oooh got to count...) 14 dairy goats, of which we have an assortment of breeds, but no Golden Guernseys. We breed and show, and at present have 5 milking, 1 in kid, 2 goatlings, 5 female kids and a large smelly male! There are some goatkeepers up in your direction- if you like I can pm some contact details and email etc. We normally come up to the Black Isle show each year to show our goats there as there is an overnight British Goat Society recognised show.

hiya from hoildaying fws (Now has gone home for a week) am normally in central scotland
I don't have any animal life stock expect a husband and step son and a intended bump.

Welocome, hope one day to get up to the highlands, with a B&B in central Scotland we see plenty of guests travelling down and up to the highlands. We only have 3 chickens, I want more but got to get a nice new hut for them first, and am getting some ducks soon, otherwise just two dogs and my partner who I wouldn't be without.....ahhhhhhhhhhh
