We have a broody Light sussex who was left sitting her own & "sisters" eggs (as we were fixing up a broody coop for her) in the communal house.
No problems keeping the others off her eggs - just an annoying habit of swapping old, infertile eggs for fresh-laid ones if the boxes were occupied and somebody lay in a place she could get too!!

Anyway, we have swapped (thanks Manian!) some hen's eggs for some turkey eggs.

The point is this - Mrs LS is now in a hutch by herself, happily (if that's the word!) sitting on these enormous Turkey eggs.
She's made her own nest & is doing a fine job.

But ... will she know that turkey eggs take longer than her own?!

Our incubator is currently full (and I mean full) of Duck eggs, day 12
This means we can hopefully pop the turkey eggs in when the ducks are hatched if we need to, but we've only one heat lamp, so its not ideal.

And having been broody for a while already, what's the likelihood of her getting sick of the whole idea before the 28 days is up?

Our only experience of broodies (having had hybrids for years) is a stroppy Maran who is easily shifted & this one, Mrs LS who sat masses of eggs last year. But she became more interested in the first hatched chick than keeping the others warm, the chick pecked at the second one to try and hatch ....  in the end we took all the eggs up to the incubator, raised them until off heat then snuck them back into her at night, she raised them all beautifully!

thanks in advance for your advice

She'll be fine, our light sussex sat on some turkey eggs last year and we kept them with her until a week old...... (felt cruel, but wanted them to join the incubator ones with no problem.)
she lost codition as they all do when broody but soon picked up and was given extra TLC. made a brill mum
she did seem to come off the nest more just before they hatched; although it may hae been us noticing more. if she get rid at least we know Charlie definitely prefers the boys ;)
ours are in the incy today, (we've mixed chicken and turkey......... i know you shouldn't but we'll see what happens) ;)

I had a pekin x silkie bantam sitting on two muscovy duck eggs once. She hatched both off with no problems. I took them away from her after a week or so as they were alot keener on water than she was  :D
Silly Spangled Appenzellers, Dutch bantams, Lavender Araucanas, a turkey called Alistair, Muscovy ducks and Jimmy the Fell pony. No pig left in the freezer, we ate him all!

thankyou!
Just had a bit of "wobble" that maybe she'd quit after 3 weeks, or decide to boot the eggs out thinking they weren't developing fast enough!

best of luck with the hen's eggs Manian ...  we know our cockerel prefers the ladies, even the ones he can't reach!!
