Hello from South Lanarkshire
« on: April 20, 2012, 08:27:34 pm »
Hi

Just thought we would say hello  We are the typical accidental smallholders and this site has been a great reference for us!

We are trying the small-holding life - we have a 20 acre small holding in Strathaven South Lanarkshire thats set up for Equestrian use (we've rented the stables and a 10 acre paddock to a riding school) - and the rest is ours to work with.

We have just bought our first two pigs, Two Tamworths thanks to an advert on this site - we have 26 Chickens, 2 horses, a hive of bees, 5 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, 1 Bengal Cat - with a Sheep and a house Cow next on the list.

We will have loads of questions - and we know there are tears, tantrums but lots of good times ahead!

Oh and one of us will be on Rosemary's next small holding course  ;)

regards

Gary and Andy

Hello, not in the true sense a smallholder just chickens, but like the self sufficitant life and forrageing etc, we moved here 5 years ago and rented just outside of Straven for less than a year, we found it  a lovely place and enjoyed living there until we found the house we wanted to buy, we were on a farm that backed onto a huge forest on the way to Dungaven.....Welcome

 Hi and welcome from soggy Shropshire.  I only have a micro-holding (back garden) but I have my goats and grown fruit and veg.  You're right about the good times ahead.  Oh and about the tears and tantrums but this is a great place for both.  Share your good times - we'll celebrate with you.  Rant about the other bits and we'll sympathise and send virtual hugs.
