Peekins are not really classified as layers, more ornamentals, if you look in most poultry books. They tend to lay and then quite often stop and go broody. I have some pure peekins that are mixed colour and they are really good layers and lay nearly every day in the spring and summer. Last year I hatched some pure colour peekins but was told not to expect as many eggs from those. They are laying well so far and are beautiful birds to look at but we shall see!
We have RIRs and hybrids as our main egg layers.
I think that there is a 25 hour cycle to produce an egg. Mine tend to lay a little later each day and then miss a day and begin again. Or so it seems
