Rain AGAIN!!!
« on: April 04, 2009, 03:24:52 pm »
I HAD intended going out into the garden this weekend, but I am very much a fairweather gardener as a well as a fairweather dog walker - one of the reasons I needed a huge garden when i moved down here. :-[ :-[

So instead of planting I will make a list of what I need to do in the garden, and where everything is going that has sprouted and stay inside except when the  dogs want out in the rain - then they get wet and I have to dry them off. :'( :'(

However, every cloud has a silver lining and this one has two.  Firstly, I can rest my back after pulling muscles when I laid my patio a few days ago, and secondly, the sewage in the Goudnie Burn running through my garden is beginning to dissipate.  So if it is a bit clearer again tomorrow the ducks will get out.  They have been shut in their horrid smelly muddy run for a week since I reported it.  I first reported this in July and regularly since so I hope they do something about it now. ::) ::)

I had plans to do stuff outside - never mind! A bit of spring cleaning instead (never get too far there, mind). the ground needed the rain so much, everything was rock hard - I think it was the first year ever when I had to water outside at the end of March! :&>

Poor you with all the rain. We could do with some here in Lincolnshire! We've just bought a submersible pump so that we can move the water from the butts to the polytunnel (it's only about 30 yards, but it's time consuming walking backwards and forwards with cans!). We are collecting a couple of big tanks (good old freecycle!) next weekend and will put them just outside the polytunnel - it'll make life a lot easier - but we will have to fill them from the waterbutts .... hence the need for rain!

Ship us some down please! ;D

We were glad of the rain today - we sowed grass seed during the week and it's been dry since. It wasn't cold though. I washed the windows outside; Dan netted the strawberries, planted out a potentilla, cut back the Russian vine, potted our two Christmas trees, potted a blueberry, fixed the gate into the "secret garden"; retrieved my stable mats from Smokey's old stable. I just give him a list and off he goes - as long as he gets it all done before the football kicks off, it's fine.

I scrubbe dthe stable mats so they are now nice a nd clean to go in the sheep shelter - Axminster was my preferred option but Juno, Jura and Jinx couldn't agree on a pattern!
