I was given this username when I got my first proper computer account (on a group of Sun workstations during my PhD). The pattern they used was first name + initial of surname but the postdoc setting up the accounts thought I wouldn't want to be 'bent' so stuck in my middle initial aswell. I've used it on pretty much every system since.

Not much imagination here, I'm afraid.  Only in so far as, as an emigree from "the south", I think it's funny to say "t'North". 

I don't use my real name on all sites, so your question made me think about when I do and when I don't.  Mostly I think it's about the feel of the site - if it's clearly full of real people interacting in a real and genuine way then I probably use Sally.  But I'm not Sally on some real genuine sites, so I think it must be pretty much random and how I was feeling when I registered!

I have to keep a list of usernames and stuff - I give myself cryptic clues to the passwords and live in fear that I will lose the keys to my own clues!

Our work's computor requires us to change passwords every 6 months and that sends me into a flat spin
