Spring is in the air
« on: March 12, 2012, 01:34:57 am »
its that time of the year when all beekeepers are looking at the weather maps spring is in the air. do you open and check are do you wait another day - personally I wait for a min of 3days of warm weather before lifting the roofs all I do at now is observe the comings and going around the hives check under (if you have a wire floor) and at the entrance for all others this gives you a understanding if the bees are cleaning out the winter rubbish (dead body's cappings etc)

So is it time to open the box and see how they serifed. only time will tell
when the revolution comes it will be a co-op

Opened my two hives on Sunday. It was warm, they had been flying a lot over the last couple of weeks and I wanted to see what was going on. They have all made it through the winter. Lots of brood in the biggest colony and still loads of reserves. Spotted the queen and small amount of reserves in the smaller one so will feed some fondant next weekend or maybe evn tomorrow. Removed mouse guards and floors. Replaced queen excluder and added a super to the bigger colony as I think they will need it soon if this warm weather continues.

Spring is in the air indeed
